The Religious School at Congregation Beth Israel-Judea follows the URJ (Union for Reform Judaism) CHAI Curriculum which focuses on three main strands of Jewish knowledge — Torah, Avodah and Gemilut Hasadim — and each grade level has a slightly different emphasis. Each level includes up to nine lessons in each area of study.
Level Six — for 6th grade—includes ketuvim (special scrolls and books of the Hebrew Bible) — The meaning behind and leadership of the Torah service —
and finally social activism and Jewish involvement in the wider world.
Level Seven — for the 7th grade — includes a in-depth Torah study to prepare students for learning and speaking about their Torah portion (parashah) — critical and thinking about Jewish belief (as it relates to Jewish lifecycles and holidays) and, Jewish ethics and behavior to help students shape the kind of people they want to become.
