Weekly Torah Study Group

Congregation Beth Israel-Judea's weekly Torah study group has been running for more than 7 years.  The group meets each Shabbat morning at 9:00AM before services, and looks at aspects of the Parshah of the week.

Everyone is welcome and contributes to the discussion. No Hebrew is required and coffee and bagels are provided to keep the blood sugar up. A free-wheeling discussion is always found here.

Here are some testimonials from members of the study group:

Charles Drucker:  Studying Torah is an exceedingly satisfying and gratifying activity for lovers of their Jewish roots.  It is a vehicle leading to greater understanding and identification with the cultural, historical, and philosophic development of our ancestors over five millennia.

For the past seven years I’ve been participating in our synagogue Shabbat morning Torah study group wherein each participant has had a singularly personal reason for engaging in the enterprise.  In my case, Torah study has brought me to an intellectual point of comfort.  I have learned how to achieve a favorable mind and balance of history combined with oral and written tradition.

Even modest understanding of its’ message of instruction provides direction for living a dynamic life of “good,” transcending tribal linkages and bloodlines.

It is Torah that enables the Jewish people to be a beneficial partner to God's creation as they engage to make the world a better place.
