Educator Rebecca Goodman

Rebecca Goodman’s Jewish identity was forged at local congregations Beth Jacob and Beth El. She was actively involved in NFTY and USY youth groups.

In addition, she attended Jewish summer camp and traveled to Israel as a teen. Her passion for teaching began in high school as a teacher’s assistant in religious school. She continued in college helping youngsters connect with their Judaism and develop strong Jewish identities.

Here is Rebecca Goodman's column from the Nov.-Dec. BIJ Bulletin.

Graduating from Hebrew Union College after studying in Israel for a year and in Los Angeles for two, with a Master’s degree in Jewish Education and a Master’s degree in Jewish Communal Service, Rebecca started working for the Bureau of Jewish Education of Greater Los Angeles.

She then moved to Midrasha in Contra Costa county and spent the past four years as the first full-time educator at Peninsula Temple Beth El in San Mateo, where she (long ago) became a Bat Mitzvah and was Confirmed.

Rebecca earned the title “Reform Jewish Educator” and the letters RJE were added after her name in 2007. This title is granted to those who fulfill “extremely stringent academic requirements in the areas of education, educational administration and Judaic studies plus a supervised educational internship.” Rebecca’s continued education, teaching and participation in professional development helped her qualify for this title.

Rebecca’s hobbies include arts, crafts, and novice gardening. She loves to scrapbook and to make greeting cards. Rebecca studied Mechanical Engineering for 2.5 years and loves the science of how things work.

Rebecca looks forward to exploring Judaism with you!
